Peter Helck’s “1908 Giant’s Despair Hill Climb”  Original Painting For Sale


An original Peter Helck painting of William Haupt driving the Chadwick Six at a 1908 Wilkes-Barre Hill Climb is available for sale at the l'art et l'autombile website. Haupt drove the Chadwick at the 1908 Vanderbilt Cup Race. Painted in 1977, the painting is priced at $25,500.

1908 Giant’s Despair Hill Climb: Haupt Sets a Record painting by Peter Helck, USA, 1977, signed and dated lower left, Caseine on board, commissioned by Richard Roy, depicts the tension in Willie Haupt and his mechanic as they pilot the Chadwick Six to the top of this famous peak near Wilkes-Barre, PA, Haupt was virtually unbeatable and would later compete in four of the first Indianapolis 500 races, published in article authored by the artist, “75 Years with Palette, Paintbrush and Wheels, Part Three”, in the Bulb Horn April-June 1982, in original matting and frame as chosen by artist’s wife Priscilla Helck, image size 27” x 17”, overall size 38.25” x 28”, A- cond., (minor nicks on frame corners).
