Another View from the Ellison Avenue Bridge
Note the grandstand on the left and the banner hanging over the road in the background. The banner likely provided a warning about the upcoming bridge.
Pre-Race Photos
The Chadwick is parked on the right in front of the newly constructed 5,000 capacity grandstand. The officials' box and press box can be seen on the left.

On the Newbridge Road Motor Parkway Bridge
The Chadwick started the race very strong and led during laps four through seven. The Newbridge Road Hotel is on the right.
Central Park (Bethpage)
During Lap seven, the Chadwick developed a faulty magneto. and fell behind George Robertson's Locomobile by 35 minutes.
The battle between the Chadwick and the Locomobile as captured by artist Peter Helck. The Chadwick was still running when the race was stopped and finished 10th.

The DPL digital collection is like a treasure hunt. This beautiful picture shows Willie Haupt and his mechanician Lindquist on their 6 cylinder Chadwick passing Ellison Railroad Bridge during the Vanderbilt Cup race of 1908. Although they completed the race, they finished 10th and last.
