My COVID-19 vaccination experience at Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens

I am pleased to report that I received the COVID-19 vaccine last Tuesday with no delays or problems.

The key is  actually finding an appointment opening.

Enjoy,

Howard Kroplick

On Tuesday, January 19, 2020, I became eligible to make an appointment for the COVID-19 vaccination- a benefit of being over 70 years old. Unfortunately, no openings could be found. However, just prior to midnight on the following Friday, January 22nd, my niece emailed me a New York State website with openings on Long Island and Queens. I was able to secure an appointment at Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens for today at noon. Here is my report:

Signage to the vaccination center at the Racing Hall is clearly marked. The tent to the left of the sign is a COVID-19 testing area.

I was met by friendly National Guard and New York State employees who checked my appointment card and ID and asked several medically-related questions.

If you don't have an appointment for the day, they will not let you register to receive the vaccination.

Within 10 minutes, I was sitting by another friendly nurse who gave me the Pfizer COVID-1 vaccination. I felt absolutely no pain from the injection, more like a pinch. I also received an appointment for the second injection in three weeks. After the injection, I was asked to sit for 15 minutes to check  for any side effects. Again, I felt no  adverse symptoms and six hours later there is still no pain in arm.

Overall, I was very impressed with the organization of the vaccination center at Aqueduct. More importantly, I felt great relief that I had begun the process to personally combat COVID-19.

The vaccination appointment websites are posted on this website and checked throughout the day for openings. If you wish to receive an early warning for these openings, please register for the VanderbiltCupRaces.com newsletter.

That’t great Howie, I’m happy for you and wish you and the Kroplick family the best of health. Interestingly, I had an appointment for my COVID-19 vaccination in Los Angeles today at 12:30 PM, as well - My experience was almost identical to yours in many ways, however, I went to Cal State University Northridge where (true to LA style) everyone stayed in their cars as the 3 lanes of endless automobiles inched forward to the first checkpoint for ID’s, then to the injection stations (under a massive solar paneled parking lot) for the vaccination - while sitting in my car. I, too, got the Pfizer shot that was painless and I have zero discomfort!

Thank you for posting this and for all your work on this treasure of a website. Can you describe how far the walk is from the parking area to the vaccination area. I am taking my mother on Friday. Appreciated!
