Film “1957 Bridgehampton Race Circuit Inauguration”

This 11-minute film, produced by Guy Frost and posted by Donna Frost, documents the SCCA National and Regional Races at the 1957 Grand Opening of the Bridgehampton Road Racing Center on September 28-29, 1957. It follows driver Daniel F. Stanfill III in his #222 1954 Austin Healey.

Now 82 years old, Stanfill, a retired aerospace engineer,  provided this description of the film:

"Basically, it was made just as a "family film," along with picnics, trips to the beach, the New York World's Fair, the Danbury Fair in Connecticut, skin diving in the Florida Keys, and other family album stuff.  I had no idea that it would become a "historic film." I'm glad that those who share a love for Bridgehampton (my favorite race course) can share it on line."

John Connolly provides a wonderful description of his Bridgehampton experiences.

Enjoy,

The Bruce McLaren Flag Plaque:

"To do something well is so worthwhile that to die trying to do it better cannot be foolhardy. It would be a waste of life to do nothing with one's ability, for I feel that life is measured in achievement, not in years alone."

WHAT A KICK; thanks Howard!  I vas dere, Chollie, with Dan, III, at some race, then or thereabouts, when the Healy 100 quit and Dan transferred the numbers to his family Ford station wagon and ran that lumbering beast and won an unlimited race, to the accompaniment of very loud protests!  Later, Austie Clark let me out on the track (non-racing) and I ran some creditable laps in a stock over-square1957 Ford Anglia!  Sam, III

Thanks so much ,first visit to track was in 1957, then in 1991 I got to take my 1987 FX16 GTS around the track ,the track was rented for a day and various cars showed up,first time for me on the track with my Toyota was a thrill I’ll never forget especially since I made an 8mm video from a camera mounted where the passenger seat normally goes. You films reminded me to watch mine ,no racing just the thrill of driving that track, WOW!
