1958-1967 tours of the Long Island Motor Parkway #8: Melville and Half Hollows Hills

From 1958 to 1967, unidentified couple(s) documented tours of the Motor Parkway with over 70 photos taken from the Western Terminus in Queens to the Eastern Terminus (Lake Ronkonkoma). In the eight post of the series, these seven photos feature the parkway in Melville and Half Hollow Hills.

Enjoy,

Howard Kroplick

Has anyone tried to identify this couple based on the license plate number of their Chrysler?

One can do a FOIL request through the DMV for past records, I’ll try to see if a plate # can be traced back.

This couple did a great job documenting the parkway. Believe the last image is facing southwest, opposite of Vanderbilt Pkwy & Half Hollow Rd. A homeowner or 2 used this portion as a long driveway, until more homes were built throughout here. Below is 1962 aerials matching their journey.

These pictures are taken by friend of mine .The woman was only a friend of his at the time the pictures we’re taken, he told me.
I have these picture from him, and spoke to him a week before he died. He told me a lot the Motor Parkway through our many visits.
I believe he was one of the first people to chase the Motor Parkway.
His name at time will stay innonminte for circumstances.

Love these old pics.

These people were ahead of their time with their explorations! Hopefully more pics turn up.
